Zuckerberg announces a "personal challenge" in 2019

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday he would host a series of public debates on the future of technology in society as part of a personal challenge this year.
Zuckerberg announced his plan in an annual publication on Facebook announcing his new year's resolutions, including last year learning Chinese for readers of two books a month.

"I will talk every few weeks with leaders, experts and people from our community in different fields, and I will try out a variety of formulas to make them interesting," Zuckerberg said in a message to Facebook on Facebook.

Facebook's reputation was damaged last year by a data scandal involving a British political consulting firm that related to personal data of millions of users, putting the social network under strict surveillance around the world.

Zuckerberg said last year that he would overcome many Facebook problems such as using hate speech, spreading misleading information and political interference.

As part of these efforts, Facebook has stepped up its efforts to verify the facts, imposed tough procedures on suspicious pages and accounts and improved its systems to identify counterfeit account holders. But the company still faces criticism from observers and legislators that it has not done enough.
