European war on "Apple" and "Google" and "Amazon"

European lawmakers on Thursday agreed to take firm stand from giant technology companies such as Google, Amazon and Apple to issue new legislation aimed at curbing unfair business practices.
A European Parliament panel voted to tighten a bill aimed at preventing "unfair trade practices" for applications, search engines, e-shops and hotel booking sites in an effort to ensure equal opportunities between technology companies and traditional companies.

The legislation gives member states greater powers to prosecute lawbreakers and lists black business practices that are unfair.

"We have been able to make improvements to the Commission's proposal to prevent unfair practices, fill gaps and protect the integrity of the relationships between users in the field of commerce and on the Internet platforms," said Christel Schaldemus, a representative of the center-right Danish parliament.

The EU Commissioner for Competition, Margaret Vestager, also considers Amazon's practices and use of vendor data to display products similar to their offerings.

The European Parliament is due to start talks with the European Commission and EU member states to reach a common position before enacting a law unless other lawmakers object to the committee's vote at the full parliament next week.
