Google is devising a way to control devices without touching

Google's subsidiary, Alavabet, has received regulatory approval from the United States to introduce a hand-held radar sensor known as Solly.
The Federal Communications Commission said in a statement that it would allow Google to operate the sensors "Soli" levels of energy higher than currently allowed. The sensors can also be operated on board aircraft, she said.

"The decision will serve the public interest by providing innovative devices to control devices using hand-tracking technology without touching," the agency said.

The SULI sensors capture motion in a three-dimensional field, using a radar beam to enable the user to control without touching the performance of tasks that can benefit those with impaired movement or speech, the Federal Communications Commission said.

Google says sensors can allow users to push an invisible button between the thumb and forefinger, or manage a virtual disk that works by touching the thumb of the index finger.

"Although these controllers are hypothetical, the feeling of interactions is palpable through the reflexes generated by the touch of the fingers," the company says.

Google says the virtual devices can come close to the precision of the natural movement of the human hand and it is possible to install sensors in wearable devices, phones, computers and vehicles.

Solly devices can be used onboard aircraft but must comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations governing portable electronic devices.
